TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began teaching in the fall of 2017. I had a long-term substitute teaching position teaching biology for the remainder of that school year. I started the next school year at my current position and have been teaching their ever since. I currently teach High school science classes such as Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, and Beginner level Chemistry classes.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I describe my teaching style as student-driven and inquiry-based. Many times in class, students may need more support and guidance through the content. However, I like to implement more opportunities for students to practice problem-solving and thinking critically about the world they live in. MY student demographic is quite varied and I find it important for students to learn about things that they are personal interested in and find relevance to information they can use in their daily lives. I try to provide many opportunities for students to guide the lesson or complete it in a way that applies to them. My ultimate goal is to discuss as many relevant topics in class to create transferrable knowledge that students can share with other students or the people in their lives. I think community sharing of information is necessary for personal/ family growth and strengthening family ties. The more support there is for the students from their teacher, peers, and parents, the more successful they are going to be.
