I taught 5th grade for a year and a half, 4th grade for three years, and 6th grade for four years in title one schools. I taught in classrooms with a range of 22-29 students. Over 60% of my students were considered multi-language learners. Over 90% of my students fell below the poverty level and qualified for free or reduced lunch. Over 94% of my students were students of color. I taught in classrooms that were fully integrated and highly collaborative. All students receiving special education services were fully integrated into the general education classroom. This meant that over 25% of my students in the general education classroom had IEP's and were receiving services differentiated for their needs.
I am a highly collaborative teacher, and I love for my students to collaborate with each other. I integrate Kagan strategies into my lessons as often as possible. My students had many different needs, and I did my best to ensure that all lessons are differentiated to support those needs. I worked collaboratively with my teammates to ensure lessons are integrated with place based learning opportunities.
