TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have fifteen years of experience teaching English at public schools in the greater Los Angeles area and I deeply value my commitment to the students that I teach. At the beginning of my career, I taught at a Title I school where many students struggled, and expectedly, I had to be very creative about accommodating a range of student ability levels. Presently, I teach at a high-achieving school in a district that regularly ranks among the very top in California. My experience working in such different schools enables me to better understand the challenges and joys of teaching in a variety of settings.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I strive to encourage rigor and critical thinking skills through interdisciplinary lessons and activities that appeal to multiple intelligences. If you walked into my classroom, you would likely hear deep analytical conversations, but you’d also see us laughing, enjoying our time together, and engaging in educational strategies that honor students’ learning needs. Now that the Common Core standards are being implemented across most of the nation, I have tailored learning materials to align with these new expectations.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Comparative Literature and Cinema-Television Critical Studies from the University of Southern California (USC). I went on to earn my Master of Arts degree in Education from Pepperdine University. In addition to my teaching credential (with English Language Learner certification), I earned certifications in teaching GATE (gifted and talented education) and in the Common Core State Standards.
