TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently in my fourth year as an English as a new language (ENL) teacher in the Buffalo Public Schools. A significant amount of my students have had interrupted formal education (SIFE). I have designed my resources with both them and traditional English language learners (ELLs) in mind. During my time as an ENL teacher, I have taught stand-alone ENL classes, as well as collaborated with content-area teachers under a co-teaching model to deliver sheltered instruction that integrates both content and language instruction for students. I have also led professional development workshops in my school that focused on how to effectively teach academic skills to ELLs.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I create resources for beginner to intermediate ENL students to practice reading and responding to fictional stories and informational texts. I design my resources for upper-level elementary, middle school, and high school ENL students. While I often find resources that are appropriate for my students' levels of language proficiency, there is a scarcity of resources that are also age-appropriate. My goal is to create engaging, culturally relevant ENL materials that are appropriate for both.
