I am a special education teacher in a high needs school. Currently, I co-plan with 4th & 5th grade, but am primarily responsible for corrective instruction in reading and math by utilizing differentiation in the classroom. I have a Masters in Teaching and am currently in my 7th year of teaching.
I am a hands-on teacher. In a small classroom I have a large amount of students that need to be able to use all of their senses to learn material. My lessons involve movement whenever possible and activating as many parts of the brain as we can to create muscle memory and retention. Students learn best when they are having fun.
I completed the Indianapolis Teaching Fellowship in 2015 and am now an alumni of The New Teacher Project and a member of Teach for America.
I hold a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theatre with an emphasis in Stage Management and a Masters Degree in Teaching.
My background in Theatre has made the world of difference in the classroom. I want my students to be able to apply the thought processes they learn in the classroom to real life. Finding fun ways to engage them is important for me. Studies have proven that the more students have fun in the classroom the more they learn. The brain cannot learn in a high stress environment so my goal as a teacher is to find the fun and make class a little less stressful in an already stressful world.
