I am a veteran teacher with over 20 years of experience! I began my career as a teacher's assistant in the classroom before moving to the computer lab where I learned how to use technology to engage students. Then I moved to the classroom where I taught first grade for one year before settling in fifth grade where I still teach today! While I have taught all subjects in fifth grade, most of my time has been as the math teacher for my grade level serving around 100 students each year.
Math is a subject that students either love or hate! My goal is to not only make math accessible to all students, but to make it meaningful, engaging, and even fun! I use a flipped video method to deliver instruction in my class which allows me to support my students in ways never before possible! I also LOVE to incorporate themed activities as well as challenges for students that finish early. I want all students to see themselves as someone who can do - and even enjoy - math!
Teacher of the Year
I obtained my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Mars Hill College (now Mars Hill University) in 2004. I earned my National Board Certification back in 2009 and have completed the renewal process to remain National Board Certified.
Outside of school you will most likely find me at home with my family! I love to relax at home, read books, do crafts, or just play outside with our dog.
