TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I started my teaching career in a third-grade classroom and then transitioned to a sixth grade ELA class, where I have been for 14 years. I have experience teaching K-8th grade from extended day and summer school programs. I also privately tutored all grades between second and eighth. I have extensive training in common core standards as well as English Language Arts best practice trainings, including the area of technology integration.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I use an inductive teaching style that allows students to discover knowledge, and consequently, even my direct instruction is constructed with this approach in mind. This helps my students understand the content on a deeper level that makes sense to them, which they can then use to apply the knowledge to new settings and situations. Educational technology is integrated into a student-centered learning environment.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been labeled as a highly effective educator in my state throughout all 15 years of teaching.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

My bachelor's degree is in elementary education with a minor in French. My master's degree is in psychology with emphasis in applied behavior analysis. As a lifelong learner, I am currently pursuing a PhD in psychology with emphasis in integrating technology, learning, and psychology.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love to find ways to challenge students, but still present lessons in a way that they are going to comprehend. I also prefer to create engaging, student-centered lessons where the students are doing most of the talking, not the teacher. While every lesson will have some degree of direct instruction, I feel as though it is incredibly important for all students to be given an opportunity to engage with and explore the content and make sense of it through guided discussions and peer interaction.
