TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught high school IB and specialty school art as well as digital art classes and Art 1 through AP for 3 decades, including some years teaching middle school, and college design, drawing and painting classes. I now teach teens and adults at a studio school (and don’t miss grading).

MY TEACHING STYLE

The arts can make us understand the world as well as our selves more deeply. Art encourages thinking about any topic in new ways, while challenging the student to reach new levels of skill and thought. I do not just focus on art for arts sake, but believe as art educators, we are training young minds how to think about all aspects of life while pushing them to higher levels of complex thinking.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been honored as Virginia Secondary Art Teacher of the Year, as well as our regional art educator of the year. I have served on the board of our state art education association as well as our regional art education association, including leading workshops. I find it very important to attend conferences to understand how art education is evolving. I have written a range of art curriculum for two school systems. My art has also been included in many exhibitions.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Masters of Liberal Studies with a concentration in Painting.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am married to an artist, and a mother to two professional artists.
