TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught in the elementary school setting for over 10 years. I started teaching in international schools in Kazakhstan and Guatemala and ended up moving back home to Minnesota where I taught elementary English language learners until the birth of my 3 children! Now I am mommy and teacher to my 3 most challenging pupils!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have a passion for learning about the world. I wish for my students to develop a curiosity of the world around them and a love of learning. I try to establish relationships with my students that make them comfortable in my classroom so we can try new things, make mistakes, and learn and learn and learn!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I still hold the V-sit and reach record at my middle school... does that count?!?

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

-Masters in ESL from Hamline University (St. Paul, MN). -Bachelors in Elementary/Middle School Education from UW-EC (Eau Claire, MN). Minor in Language Arts.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Before I had my children I wrote: "In my free time I love traveling, kayaking, swimming, dancing, and doing yoga." After having children, I still travel, but it is a lot closer to home with a lot more baggage. I manage to get out kayaking and swimming though less frequently and dancing now is to kids music in the kitchen. Yoga, well, that doesn't happen much anymore. I am a mom of three. My eldest child was born with Down syndrome and she has become my greatest teacher. I used to advocate for language learner in my career as an ESL teacher. Now I have shifted and spend much of my time advocating for those in the Down syndrome/special needs community.
