This rubric can be used to assign a grade to students for their participation in their assigned Literature Circle discussion groups. The rubric is designed for 4 Literature Circle discussion meetings, but could easily be adapted for more or less. The rubric addresses student's participation as well as preparedness.

Student Non-Fiction Book Publishing Rubric
I used this rubric for my students when they created non-fiction books about the Native American Tribes. Students folded 3-4 sheets of white paper in half, bound it with staples, and then filled it in with the required content. This project incorporated our social studies content while reinforcing writing skills and identifying, using, and creating text features. This product can be modified to accommodate any non-fiction subject area. A great tool for integrating multiple content areas into one

Rubric for Nonfiction Writing
This is a rubric I created for our creative nonfiction unit in writing. The students score themselves 0-2 on punctuation, grammar, figurative language, & paragraph usage. It's a great tool for them to go back and edit their rough drafts before they publish to a final piece. The teacher fills one out and you can compare results if you'd like. It's also a great sheet for data or if you discuss grades with parents.
