Origami Project
This project has students choose and fold a piece of origami. They will use the outline of the figure to create a polygon, triangulate the polygon, and use the Law of Sines and Cosines to find missing parts of triangles. Once triangles have been solved, students will find the area of each triangle (I teach Heron's area formula and Area=0.5(a)(b)sin(C) to streamline the process) to calculate the total area of their figure. I use this reflection essay over winter break to have the students reflect on their learning in all classes. I have adapted it for all of my classes over the years, and it's a good way to get the students writing more and reflecting on their learning and learning styles.
