Cooperative learning activity where students match an algebraic expression to a story problem. Once all expressions have been matched, student teams are given the value of the variable with a clue card. Then they use the substitution property to solve word problem.

Solving Absolute Value Inequalities (Guided Notes)
This lesson is meant to be used as guided notes for a whole class.
Students begin by learning the steps to solving absolute value inequalities. There are 2 scenarios: greater than signs or less than signs. In order to remember how to solve these, they are presented with the mnemonic device GORLAND! (Greater than = or, less than = and) Then they solve a few problems using this new word they have just learned. Finally, they are shown examples of a few problems where there would be no solution.

Negative Exponents (Guided Notes)
This lesson is meant to be used as guided notes for a whole class. Students begin by learning the rule for negative exponents, followed by a simple proof/explanation of why. Compound Probability with Skittles
Students use a small cup of skittles (or a fun size bag) to pull two skittles and then find the probability (likelihood) of pulling that "exact combination" or "either occurring combination". Then, through reflection questions, students realize that "exact combinations" are far less likely to occur than "either occurring" combinations.
