Teaching poetry can be a challenge--for both teacher and students alike. The TP-CASTT strategy is a wonderful tool for analyzing poetry. The acronym stands for Title, Paraphrase, Connotation, Attitude/Tone, Shift, Title, and Theme (the title is revisited after breaking down the poem). I created this powerpoint after a class I had did really poorly on a part of speech assessment. It is very "sit and get" but quite frankly, this particular class needed this method. My scores increased from 21% proficient to 81% proficient after spending 3 days going through this bootcamp. We probably spent 45 minutes of our 90 block for 3 days on it.
