Principles of Design: Composition à la Piet Mondrian
We all recognize the work of 20th Century Modernist, Piet Mondrian. This unit borrows from his work directly. It is a 2D composition using only the primary colours plus black, squares and rectangles cut from construction paper and glued onto a white background (cartridge paper). Plus, there are a few extension ideas for higher learners included.

Painting: Terminology and Techniques
This is a list of terms relating to "Painting", in the artistic sense. I have also included definitions/outlines for several techniques, and two lessons, one with Watercolour, and one with Acrylics. The acrylic lesson focuses on colour-field painting, that is, painting areas of flat colour, meant in the modern abstract sense, like the work of Joseph Albers, or Marc Rothko. I have made reference to palette knives, but I do not go into any great detail with that technique.

International Coloring & Fact Book
I recently published the above. On the back page, I gave permission for public school teachers to freely make copies for their students. The book consists of one page of facts followed by the coloring page. I tried to choose international structures that are truly colorful and not just stone gray. Art Analysis Strategy: Appropriation Classic Art with Personified Objects
Appropriation is taking or borrowing of elements to recontextualize them or create new works. The borrowed elements may include images, forms, or styles from art history or from popular culture, or materials and techniques from non-art contexts (i.e. everyday objects). The audience or viewer may or may not by aware of the intertextuality of the imagery.

Art Analysis Strategy: Image Improvisations; Interpreting a Work of Art/Drama
This is a cooperative strategy. Students, in small groups, discuss an art work to determine what could be happening and/or the relationships among the people, animals, or objects in it. Students then explore their analysis on the image through various drama conventions and improvisation. They would finally record the scene, either by photograph or video, (video is preferred to view the entire performance) for presentation, discussion, and reflection.
