Parties to an Offence
This work package looks at all the ways someone can be involved in a crime. The PowerPoint discusses topics like aiding and abetting. After each slide explaining the term, a slide uses the definition as an example to increase student understanding. This lesson explores the Canadian Constitution. The PowerPoint discusses the importance of the Constitution. Sentencing Goals and Options
This resource will take up two 75-minute class periods. The PowerPoint looks at the purpose of sentencing, the sentencing process and the different types of sentencing. The guided note allows students to copy down the note in a scaffolded manner. To end there is a research task where students list the aggravating and mitigating factors, the mandatory minimum or maximum sentence and what they would give the criminal if they were the judge. It is perfect for a CLU3M or CLN4U course.

Criminal Defences
This package includes a PowerPoint, guided notes and research activity. The lesson looks at the different types of criminal defences for mental states. The lesson looks at NCR (not criminally responsible) and how the courts determine if there has been a mens rea. The last slide of the PowerPoint has a research activity where students research famous NCR cases in Canada. The lesson works well with a legal studies class or CLU3M and CLN4U courses.
