So, You Need to Write an IEP? (Step-by-Step Guide on How to Write an IEP)

I struggled my first year teaching with writing IEP's. I had only 1 class in school. that taught me how to write them. When you are in a large group working on an IEP together, it's easy, right?! Working on one alone, with no one to bounce off ideas, or tell you if you are on the right track is a whole other thing! Since then, I've learned how to perfect the IEP's that I write. I went from my first taking 5 hours, to be able to sit down and write one in 1 hour. Last year I started as a Special E

School Counselor Self Referral Student Passes

At the beginning of each year, I laminate one of each of these passes for each teacher in my building. If a student is in crisis or has an emergency they can use the "I need to see the counselor NOW" pass (with red light) ON RED PAPER, but if not, they use the "I need to fill out a counselor request slip" (with yellow light) ON YELLOW PAPER and can return to class. This helps me prioritize and triage as necessary and helps hall monitors, admin, and clerks route the student in the correct place.
