What is a Gene? (With Claims-Evidence-Reasoning Question)
In this "literacy in the content areas" lesson, students learn what genes and chromosomes are. Students are then introduced to the question of "heredity vs. environment." Using a list of human characteristics, students are asked to decide if the characteristics are products of heredity, environment, or both. Lastly, students are asked to use a C-E-R model defend a claim about one of the characteristics, using evidence and explaining why their evidence is important.
