This card set has many parts and is intended to go along with the Story of the Orchestra book written by Robert Levine. The book and music should be introduced to the children first. After that, the book and music can be used with the instrument picture cards to identify the different instruments playing during each track. Rhythm Fruit > Understanding
This document explains Rhythm Fruit.The “fruit rhythm” system incorporates imagery, syllables, and counting to learn the durations of note and rest values. The fruit are used with the short notes exclusively, where as “long notes” deal will a sound that lasts for more than one beat, mostly one to four beats. The Imagery for a long note comes in a form of a number in a rectangle, the sound is held for the given number of beats, counting is crucial. “Rests” involve silence, hand motions (imagery)

This is a music appreciation line time. This can be two 15 minute line times or a 20-30 minute one. This can be done at home or at school. Record player and records required.

Music Rhythm Cards
These cards can be cut in half and held up in front of children to imitate the rhythm. Some knowledge of quarter notes and rests must be taught. Hold one card up at a time and teach the children how to do the rhythm (having them repeat you). Once they have mastered a few, hold them up and let them do the rhythm on their own. Keep adding more and more rhythms as they master them. Kids love to play this game!
