This formal debate activity sets up all of the guidelines for a classroom debate. Preparation time for the actual debate is roughly three days. But one debate should last only 45-50 minutes. Students will learn actual debate strategy, research skills, argumentation, speaking skills, and refutation. This does not teach an ethical stance. Instead, it teaches students to take any stance and be persuasive in a team debate.
