The Oregon Trail Song

Sing this song to the old Gilligan's Island theme ("Now sit right back and you'll hear a tale..."). This song is a fun way to teach the following standards: Why did settlers travel west on the Oregon Trail? What hardships did the settlers face on the trail? What was the Homestead Act? How did towns grow along the trail? Brain research tells us that songs are stored in long term memory-use the songs as a scaffold to allow students to access the important information you teach them, for the long t

This is a song I wrote to help students memorize the 50 States and Capitals. I didn't like the Anamaniacs version because it was so scattered over the map. I wrote it so it would go from the East to the West coast.

Alexander the Great Song

Here is a song to teach about Alexander the Great, amazing conqueror and King of Macedonia. The way I used this was to play an instrumental version of "Can't Stop the Feeling" by Justin Timberlake and then sing with it at the beginning of the lesson. I then asked my students what they already knew about Alexander the Great that was included in the song. Then, as we went through our lessons, learning more about him, we would pull the lyrics back up and highlight/circle parts we learned about and
