Kindergarten theme activity for unit on Presidents. I began by reading Martha Brenner's 'Abe Lincoln's Hat' and then asked the students what important things they would want to keep in a tall hat like Lincoln's. The students wrote a sentence about what they would keep and drew an illustration on the inside of the image of the hat.

This is a calendar that can be adjusted for your use. It includes a school year's worth of writing prompts for Sept-May. Students could have this stapled/glued inside their writing journals to offer some inspiration...or this could take the place of morning work each day. The possibilities are endless! December/Christmas/Winter Journal Writing Prompt Booklet
This is a 7 page booklet that features two journal entries on each page. The first is a title page, so there are 12 writing prompts. Each page has several lines for a student response, as well as a box to draw a picture of the journal entries.
These half sheets are to be cut out and given to students one at a time. At the end of the month, just before break, I like to punch holes and bind the journals for students to keep as a momento.

Narrative Planning Plot Chart
I created and printed this plot chart onto 11 by 17 paper for my class this year in order to help them plan their narrative stories before writing. It worked wonders!
Each step on the plot chart has clear instructions for each part of the story. (Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and Resolution)
I let my students write notes of their plans all over these and their stories have stayed right on track once they began writing!

The setting page shows the when and where aspect which helps children undertand what a setting can be. My Any Grade Memory Book
I have used this memory book in my classroom for years now and my students love it. Next to each letter you can create a text box and write the memory inside. For example, A could be Art Class, F could be food in the cafeteria. My students love this book and can enjoy it for a lifetime.
