With this song the birthday boy or girl has the opportunity to play the special "Birthday Drum" while the class sings the salute to their honored day. Works best with children 12 and under. It was written by Clark Bell and appears on his Mixed Meters for Minors album. A fun craft project would be to make a class dedicated birthday drum.

This song was written while Clark Bell was stationed in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada
and longing for the warmth and comforts of his Florida home. It is a jazz waltz in 3/4 time and features Bill Prince on the Clarinet. This song was submitted in the contest by the Legislature of Florida to find an official song to replace "Old Folks at Home". It is descriptive of the climate, animals and fish one would expect to find in the Sunshine state. It appears on the Special Kind of Songs album.

The distance to the school was about 3 miles and it was just enough time to complete the song and teach it to my daughters Montessori class that very same day.
