December/Christmas/Winter Journal Writing Prompt Booklet
This is a 7 page booklet that features two journal entries on each page. The first is a title page, so there are 12 writing prompts. Each page has several lines for a student response, as well as a box to draw a picture of the journal entries.
These half sheets are to be cut out and given to students one at a time. At the end of the month, just before break, I like to punch holes and bind the journals for students to keep as a momento.

WORD CHOICE: Are You Showing Not Telling
Are you frustrated with your student's lack of descriptive writing. This activity is a great introduction to the concept of showing not telling in writing. On each of the twelve pages, students have an opportunity to sketch a picture related to an emotion. At the bottom of each page, they should describe the emotion without using the actual word (e.g. my heart was racing, my jaw dropped, and etc.)

Narrative Planning Plot Chart
I created and printed this plot chart onto 11 by 17 paper for my class this year in order to help them plan their narrative stories before writing. It worked wonders!
Each step on the plot chart has clear instructions for each part of the story. (Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and Resolution)
I let my students write notes of their plans all over these and their stories have stayed right on track once they began writing!

A story writing packet for a unit on "The Lightning Thief," by Rick Riordan. Students will write their own half-blood story with 16 pages of guidance on creating characters, locations, and event sequences. They will fill in a story map and edit their final work.

This is a fun activity to use during a Mythology unit. The student invents a fictional god/goddess based on themselves. They then fill out the template be careful to include all of their important information/traits. The assignment is only complete when the students adds a creative name/illustration to the oval in the middle.

ACT TRACKER (HIGH/LOW--FAST/SLOW)
This is an ACT tracker that I created for my students on Publisher. I call it high/low--fast/slow. We practice two of each piece on the Reading portion of the test and do a "Quick Write" or "Power Write" in between each.
