Math & Art Project-Based Learning: Piet Mondrian, Fractions, Decimals & Percents
This unique project combines Piet Mondrian's art with a mathematical project. Using this product, students investigate Mondrian's art using the "See-Think-Wonder" routine from "Making Thinking Visible. They estimate fractional amounts of color on Mondrian-inspired examples, and measure the artwork using 100s grid overlays. They also create their own Mondrian-inspired art using specific fraction amounts. Next, students learn how to turn those fraction amounts into decimal number representation

After Winter Break Math Craftivity
Do ALL of your students want to share about their winter break? Do you also want something fun and pretty to hang up that is still winter and math related? This was a great activity for students complete the initial days after winter break. Students were able to share their personal stories about their break as well as learn about each others while sneaking in some engineer design process, math review or pre assessment of fractions, and also turns out to be a really pretty art project! Fraction Mini-Project: Cow-a-bunga!!
Students use their knowledge of fractions to discover the colors of cows in the herd. They calculate their earnings for helping the farmer and also determine what color cows need to be purchased to solve the farmer's conundrum. Finally, they write a letter to the farmer to explain their solution.
