I created this resource as an introduction to derivatives for my precalculus class. It may also work well as cooperative investigation or review in calculus. Students are guided to make connections between slope, average rate of change, and instantaneous rate of change. They then expand on these ideas to create equations for lines tangent and perpendicular to a curve at a given point.
