US Coin Cheat Sheet

I noticed my first graders were struggling with remembering the names and values of each of the four main coins. At first, I had made something similar to this and put it on the board, but then all of my students wanted to go over to the board to work so they could see the coin names and values. I decided to make a cheat sheet that they could each have of their own. I taped them to their desks, and they have worked miracles!

Clear photos of both heads and tails help them distinguish one coin from another and the bottom reminds them to count the coin with the highest value first. The quarter row provides reminders that 1 quarter is 25 cents, 2 are 50 cents, 3 are 75 cents and 4 quarters are a dollar.

Print these cards and paste/laminate them onto colored paper (a different color for each set of cards). For example, I printed mine in rainbow order to help with organization (2's on red, 3's on orange, etc) Have students sequence count a few times a day, until numbers are memorized. I will use the previous days lesson poster to review the voacbulary, etc, at the beginning of each subsequent lesson, so we are able to build on the skills throughout the topic. The samples of each lesson objective on the poster also give students a visual representation of what they are going to learn that day.
