Cornell Notes are an excellent way for students to take notes and create their own study guides. I created this version of Cornell Notes for two reasons- I found that my students needed larger lines to write in and I felt that students might also benefit from an unlined template. This download contains these two versions- the lined version uses grey lines (a lot easier on the eyes!) as well as a blank version. Using Cornell Notes or not, students will all take notes in their own unique way, a

A collection of work through a portfolio is one of the best ways for students to illustrate their learning and make their thinking visible. Inviting students to archive evidence of their learning and reflect on what each artefact says about themselves as a learner is a critical part of the learning process. For some students this reflection comes easily, they see the link between what they have done and what they have learned and naturally use this as a means to set goals. For others, this con

Equity Questioning Time

There are many programs that address critical thinking skills and the development of higher order questions. But very few (if any) that address managing the classroom environment. Well-constructed, probing questions are not any good if the students are disruptive or un-engaged. My “Equity Questioning” program helps you to create a classroom for the benefit of all your students. It eliminates disruptions and shows you how to draw the quiet reserved student into the learning environment in a suppo

This is a great self reflection strategy learners can use to identify for themselves how to start a task, and to monitor their own progress toward completion. This strategy is useful for those learners who simply do not know how or where to begin, but do have valuable ideas. Use a scaffold and structure to move along our learners towards independent work. Some teaches find it useful to duplicate this as a large sized anchor chart, while others minimize it to keep at the children's desk/work a

This little flip book is suitable for use with Common Core Reading Standards (Reading Literature) for first, second and third graders. Obviously, teachers will need to give beginning or struggling readers, more support than those who can do the work independently.

I use this poster to help scaffold student science journal entries. This is typically done after we have done an experiment or hands on activity. I require that their entries be at least 5 complete sentences long. This is a quick way to reach that goal. I always encourage more, but this helps those reluctant writers tell me everything I need to know about what they did.
