Scientific Practices and the Scientific Method
Appendix F (Science and Engineering Practices) of the NGSS asks us to teach our students how to plan and carry out investigations, but that's about all the direction we get. So, I've developed a series of eleven videos and accompanying worksheets that support this topic. The videos are light-hearted, example-filled, and will provide your students with a clear means for planning and carrying out a scientific investigation.

This is a video guide that I made following the video "How Scientists Work: What Is the Scientific Method?" found on www.unitedstreaming.com a Discovery Education video. This worksheet follows along with the video and has numerous blank spots for students to fill in. It could be used to follow along with the video or as a quiz after the video. I assigned each part a point value to make for easy grading.

In this short activity, students will watch a short video clip on observations and inferences. Students should be able to give examples of observations and inferences and tell the difference between the two concepts. I use this template for my students when we are watching Khan Academy videos. My students must write down everything on the video (including verbal ques) to help us with our note taking. I mostly use this for math but it is also useful for science.
