This is a great way to get students writing like the authors we read. Instead of fixing mistakes, they focus on mimicking great writing. I always try to choose a sentence that ties in with our grammar focus for the week. Print on colored paper so student won't loose throughout the week!

It can be modified to provide exact words in a specific text or can be used for independent words they don't know. I teach different strategies to define words and then on this graphic organizer, to increase their metacognition, they need to code which strategy they used. This helps them internalize the strategies. Can be used in-person or virtually.
