As a fun alternative to the typical teacher-dictated Spelling test, and to give my voice a break, I audio-recorded the spelling tests each week. These files include:
* words – the list of BJU Press 20 words dictated with a 20-second pause in between
* dictation – two sentences BJU Press recommends; students listen to twice then write from memory
* ck – the correct spelling of each word for students to correct their own papers
This method has many advantages: gives the teacher a break; make-up

Essential Spelling List 1 - voice recordings
An audio recording of Essential Spelling List 1. Each word is read, used in a sentence and read again. Appropriate timing for students to write the word without the need to pause in between. Students can use independently with their own headphones or it could be played via a sound system in the classroom.
