Close Reading Strategy Adapted for K-2
This document was created to help K-2 implement the instructional strategy of Close Reading. Mentor text list with teaching points
I have created a list of mentor texts (some of my favourite picture books and literature) that I use regularly in Writer's Workshop to teach young authors about craft, process and genre writing techniques through bookmaking. Each mentor text has a list of possible teaching points or learning intentions that can be explored (e.g. illustration study learning intentions, how to write using dialogue, how to use onomatopoeia etc).

Any organized library need one thing. Book labels! These labels are created to be printed off on shipping labels then placed on or inside your books. I separate my library by very different specific categories and this way the children can find and place the books in their proper location.

Student Conference Notes Tracker
I created this grid after trying to juggle all of my quick 1:1 conferences with students. My school requires that I take anecdotal notes on students, and this is a great place to record and track them. This weekly grid helped me see which students I had met with during that week, and which ones I still needed to conference with. Since I may have an impromptu meeting with a student or student absences, I like the open grid rather than the set schedule.
