This is a 4 week unit of planning that supports pupils to write a story set in far off lands from a place very foreign to what they are used to. The text is the Mysterious Traveler by Mal Peet & Elspeth Graham who were inspired to write this book after visiting Mali and finding out one of the most famous local guides was blind. The story tells of an old man finding an abandoned baby in the desert who he adopts as his own grand-daughter. He teaches her how to track her way through the desert
