Food Truck PBL
This PBL is geared towards individual projects, TAG and ALP passion projects or small group extensions during math. Students can be self-directed as they go through each step of research and design on their own. It involves a variety of writing structures, authentic research and development, quality questioning, website building, volume measurement and lots of real-world applications. Plus the material cost is basically free!

Measurement Unit Project
This is an extension project for Gifted and Talented Students. This has students making high level calculations and requires students to use critical thinking skills. Really any student could complete this project with help and guidance from the teacher. It has a rubric and sets clear expectations for students. Students are also required to build a replica of their mountain.

5th Grade Volume Introduction
Students will:
• Calculate the volume of objects in the real world.
• Apply these strategies to real-life problems.
• Use domain-specific vocabulary to summarize a word problem.
Materials: Paper and pencil (graph paper preferable), rulers (optional)
Resources: Student math books for definitions (optional); document camera (optional)
Lesson lasts 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
No copies necessary.
