Ostinato and Dave Brubeck's "Unsquare Dance"
Students will move and perform to the classic Jazz tune by Dave Brubeck. They learn the ostinato and clap and march to the ostinato in a fun circle dance and can also play along with the bass line. Essential and ELA questions are provided to connect to literacy.
A follow-up lesson has the students composing their own ostinati and performing for their peers. A Common Core classic!

This flipchart has cute cats for students to arrange for the melodic contour of Cat Goes Fiddle-I-Fee in order to prepare, present, and practice the do-re-mi-so-la solfege. Drag a copy of each picture from the left and create the melodic shape in each "measure". (Use the second page as a reference.) Click along the top for each cat to show up larger. The Little Fugue of Johann Sebastian Bach
Students learn the Art of the Fugue in this colorful and fun lesson that incorporates Dalcrose, instrumental performance, and active listening. The "Little Fugue" in G-Minor is explored with two listening maps and performance activities that coincide with the entrances of the subject. Teaching Minor Keys Through Recorder: Halloween Song
This product is an ActivInspire flipchart that is a complete lesson, to be used to teach a song in a minor key. This song is easily played on recorder by beginning to intermediate students. Included in the flipchart: a fingering chart, song with notation, and a space to compose original lyrics to this song. Use this lesson to also teach composition, by allowing your students to create original Halloween or "spooky" lyrics to this song.

Interactive Note Name Tic Tac Toe
Fill in the staff with notes of your choice or the students' choice. In small groups, (great for centers) the students must name the note in one of the sections. If they get it incorrect, they cannot put an X or O on the board. Their goal is to get tic tac toe by naming the notes correctly.
