Stretching a Sentence Smartboard Going From Good to Great Sentences
This is a Smartboard activity. I have used this method to help my students go from writing simple sentences to visual sentences. It works in second grade and can work in upper grades. Kids love the way their writing improves when they start using adjectives and adverbs in their writing. You must have Notebook software to use this activity. 12 slides.

Argument Game (Practise persuasive / exposition / debating language)
This is a notebook slide adapted from a simple 'argument' game. I used this in my fourth grade class as a fun game to practise persuasive language.
Two students at a time (could be played in teams). Each student presses interactive dice which determines which topic will be argued. Students then need to give 2 arguments for their side. Class can vote on who had the better points. Winner can continue with new opponent.

Earth Day Recycling SMART Board Attendance Activity w/ SOUND
Celebrate Earth Day and encourage recycling through the use of this fun and engaging SMART Board attendance activity. Students move their recyclable item to the recycling bin. Students then click the bin to hear the recycling truck back up and do its job!

If You Give the Earth an Evergreen Tree
This is and interactive Smart Board story. It was written by a kindergarten class to model the mentor author: Laura Numeroff. The story is a circular story with a seasonally appropriate Earth Day theme. It has animations that fade in when the page is turned. This can be used as both a writing and reading workshop lesson. The last page has a circular story format that can be used to model the circular story writing. This is a common core aligned lesson.

Six Traits Word Choice Smartboard
Use this Smartboard lesson to help your students master the concept of word choice. Students need to be aware that they have an audience for their writing and so their objective is not only to inform but entertain. There are several slides devoted to brainstorming for interesting word choices to help students write more vividly. There is also a story to listen to and talk about interesting, descriptive words.

A Paragraph is Like a Cheeseburger
This is a fun creative thinking/writing lesson that will help students build a clear understanding of the parts of a paragraph and can extend to the parts of an essay using an analogy between paragraphs and cheeseburgers. It would also be a fun review for paragraph writing.

Habitats Research Organizer
This is a 6 page organizer for students to use as they research a habitat of their choice. It is great for younger grades (1st-3rd). I created it as a smartboard to use as a model and then printed the pages directly from there. This project can be topped off with students creating a biome at home to then bring in and share with the class. Students loved it and did a great job with it!
