These cards include 44 pairs of homophones and two Old Maid cards. The cards can be used to play several different games:Old Maid: divide students into groups of 4. Give each group half the cards (22 matched pairs) and one Old Maid card. Students pass out the cards as evenly as possible. Multiple-intelligence vocabulary cards
Learning new words is hard, particularly those that are tier 3. As these words are domain-specific, they’re often impossible to figure out from context and instead must be studied explicitly and memorized.
What I call memory cards are a tool to accomplish this. This improvement on the traditional flash card takes advantage of Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, allowing students to personalize their learning of new words.

This handout can be student's accountability for any student-directed activity. I've used this during reader's workshop for students to track words as well as when explicitly teaching homophones.
