After learning about each short vowel, we play short vowel bingo together as a whole group. Pass out the blank bingo sheets and a highlighter to each student. If you are focusing on the vowel a, that page should be displayed on your smartboard for all to see. Children will copy 9 words onto their worksheets. One student is called up to the smartboard to read one word and highlight it. He/she will choose the next student to come up and read and highlight and so on until you have a bingo winner.

If you don't have a big magnetic board, just use your smartboard to demonstrate your phonics and word work. This smartboard looks just like a black chalkboard with magnetic letters.
