This week-long activity is something that I use with my 12th grade government students, but could easily be adjusted for any grade. At the beginning of the week students each get a role in a fake class election to be "class president". Each student is given a different role: political candidate, lobbyist, visual media expert, writer, and technological media expert work together to participate in a campaign and participate in the political process. In the end the group who wins the election gets

I made these cards to use at a mock election that I will hold in my classroom the day before election day. Students will draw their picture in the box and fill in the rest of the information about themselves. I will print them out on cardstock to give them a more official feel. I will have them present these at the front of the classroom before they vote.

The Growth "Ballooning" of the Federal Bureaucracy- Balloon Game

This game teaches students about the growth of the federal bureaucracy by giving students 8 cards which each describe the creation of a new agency. Students read a card, pump up a balloon, and then tape to the balloon a picture (which they choose from the picture sheet) to represent that agency. After all 8 cards, students tie the balloons up and have a visual image of how much the bureaucracy has ballooned over time. You can turn the activity into a game by having groups compete with each other
