Just finished a unit on the Holocaust? This powerful poetry activity will highlight the humanity of this great tragedy for students. Using “The Faces of the Holy” by Faisal Mohyuddin as a mentor text, students will create their own acrostic poem dedicated to a victim of the Holocaust. This activity will pair with the ID cards available on the website for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum or you could ask students to use the names of characters in your anchor text for the unit.

I use roundtable cafes often in my classes to give students ownership of the information they're studying. This one-pager provides topics for White's The Once and Future King and is meant to be used halfway through the novel. My students love the engagement of roundtable cafes. It's a wonderful day for me because I only moderate discussion and it allows me to truly get a feel for how the students are processing literature.
