Calendar Project - Expressions and Equations

Students will create a series of expressions and equations for each date on a calendar month (expressions: substitute a value that gives the date as an answer, equations: the date is the solution). This is a great project to practice evaluating expressions and solving one-, two- and multi-step equations.

Quadratics Fountain Performance Task:You have been hired as a landscape architect to design the water arcs of a fountain in a new park. The pool of the fountain is 20 feet wide, and the water arcs are to be greater than 6 feet tall, but no more than 50 feet. The water arcs will follow a parabolic path. You will present your design to a group of engineers who will build the fountain.Students will create a fountain using at least 5 quadratic formulas, utilizing Desmos.com. Explicit directions are

Algebra 1 Semester 1 Review Booklet

This product is great for Algebra 1 students. It has almost everything they learn semester 1 and can be used a great tool for studying for their first final exam of high school. As a bonus, I used mine as an extra grade for them and allowed them to use it on the final. I uploaded it as a word document so you may edit the fill in the blanks or the problems since I do not have an answer key. If you edit, please don't upload as your own as this i my original work and idea. Thank you for your purcha

IB MYP Assessment - Criterion D Projectile Motion

This is an IB MYP (year 5) assessment for criterion D, real-life application. If at a non-MYP school, it works as a great project or class activity. Students complete a lab to demonstrate the properties of projectile motion in the context of quadratic functions. They then use their data to make predictions and justify the accuracy of their solutions. It makes for interesting conversation about the parameter of what solutions are acceptable in the context of real-life problems involving physics.
