My students love this project. They will begin by choosing a flag of their choice from any nation on the planet. Students will then research their country and choose how they wish to present their information to the class. They may pick between a traditional presentation, a 'breaking news' story digitally presented, or an essay. The centerpiece of any presentation will be their nation's flag illustrated on a 1/2 sheet of posterboard.

The title is very self explanatory. I printed out Kobe's poem Dear Basketball and had my 4th graders analyze it. We discussed character, point of view, and figurative language along the way. Then, we watched a YouTube video of the poem that was accompanied by some really cool visuals, and students were tasked with writing an opinion piece about Kobe either via poem or letter.
