TEACHING EXPERIENCE

As a highly experienced middle school humanities teacher at Synergy School in San Francisco, Dominic Altieri has honed his skills in imparting a range of historical and cultural knowledge to his students. In addition to teaching traditional subjects such as Ancient World History and American History, Dominic has also brought a diverse array of elective courses to his classroom, including Ukulele, Social Justices, Film Studies, and Micro Economics. As an advisor teacher, Dominic has demonstrated a commitment to mentorship and has played a pivotal role in the academic and personal growth of his students. Outside of the classroom, Dominic enjoys spending time with his family and traveling on road trips. He is a fan of the San Francisco Giants and the Golden State Warriors and enjoys staying active and engaged in his community. Dominic holds a Master of Education in Special Education and Teaching from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, as well as a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education and Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies from the same institution. In 2011, he also earned a teaching certification from the North American Montessori Teachers Association. Dominic began his educational journey at Archbishop O'Hara High School and served as a student manager for the UMKC Men's Basketball team during his undergraduate studies.

MY TEACHING STYLE

As a dedicated history teacher with a progressive, project-based approach, I am deeply committed to providing a comprehensive and inclusive educational experience. My teaching philosophy centers around the belief that understanding history is not just about learning facts from the past, but about connecting those events to the diverse tapestry of human experiences. I strive to bring history to life in my classroom by focusing on cultures from around the world, emphasizing the importance of each culture in shaping our global community. My lessons are designed to be interactive and engaging, encouraging students to actively participate in their learning through various projects and collaborative activities. These projects not only help students grasp historical concepts but also develop critical thinking and analytical skills. By highlighting multiple perspectives, I aim to foster a learning environment that is not only informative but also empathetic and respectful of global diversity. My goal is to equip students with a deeper understanding of the past and inspire them to apply these insights to contemporary issues, preparing them to be knowledgeable, thoughtful, and proactive citizens of the world.
