10 years with a private organization teaching English Language Arts/Drama to high school students on the autism spectrum
I firmly believe that in order for students to be academically successful, there needs to exist an environment that fosters positive social interactions and genuinely represents the ideals valued by our democratic society. Every person that a student comes in contact with, adult or fellow student, has the potential to be a mentor to the student, teaching them invaluable life lessons that will serve them well as productive members of our society. When students recognize their self-worth and the fact that they can make positive contributions to this world, they will be motivated to take an active role in their learning, a precursor to the active role they will take in the greater society. Educators must commit themselves to continuously improving their practice to ensure that all students achieve this desired level of self-actualization. Those in the educational field must be held accountable for meeting these professional teaching standards as they represent “a common vision of quality teaching”.
