TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I'm a professionally licensed TN teacher with experience in ELA 9,10,12. I've also been a mom for over two decades (which helps with classroom management strategies) and was an administrative assistant for almost three decades (which means I rock at Word and Publisher). I even worked as an aide in Kindergarten for a few years, which inspired me to go back to school and be a teacher. I have served as yearbook advisor and English I and II teacher for 5 years at my present assignment.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I'm a mom of teens, and I teach like a mom. I tend to be firm and structured but loving, and highly sarcastic. I incorporate a LOT of history into my lessons, both because it interests me and because I'm disappointed that the Z generation doesn't know as much as they should about events of the last (or this) century. My classes have a lot of class discussion, Socratic seminars, or group work. I also try to incorporate all learning styles in my lessons.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

ETS Recognition of Excellence for scoring in the top 15% of all test takers in previous years on English Language Literature and Composition Content Knowledge.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned a B.A. in English in the early 90's. I spent the 90's and the 00's working in non-profit as an administrative assistant -- because I could spell and type well. I went back to school in 2010 to earn a 6-12 license to teach, and returned for a M.Ed received in 2015. As a lifelong reader and amateur geneologist, I never stop reading and learning!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Married mother of two who lives in East Tennessee. I love relaxing on the beach, reading mystery novels, laughing at Shoebox greeting cards at Hallmark, and sleeping in on snow days. I stress eat on chocolate when I'm grading papers or I'm near a yearbook deadline, and I support the idea of bringing our pets to work.
