I've been in the classroom for seventeen years, having taught from 6th grade all the way down to 3rd. At this rate, I'll be in kindergarten before I know it! I currently teach English language arts in the dual immersion program (Portuguese) at our school and I'm loving it! I've got 49 students whom I love. I have experience teaching all elementary subject areas, but I'm especially passionate about the arts, language and otherwise. I have my STEM endorsement and am currently working to obtain my Arts endorsement.
My style is fun, yet controlled. Having been a student with severe ADD myself, I know how important it is to get the kids up and moving in short intervals. When I'm bored, I know my students are bored. We love, we laugh, we learn.
I've got a number of "World's Best Teacher" pictures from my students. That'll do.
So I struggled growing up. School was the bane of my young existence. I was the ADD poster child and graduated high school by the skin of my teeth. Then, post high school, I worked as an aide in an elementary school and fell madly in love with the profession. I majored in elementary education, not because I knew a whole lot to share with future generations, but because I love children! I want them to succeed. I want them to enjoy school, to find success, and to see themselves as I do. I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University.
When I'm not "performing" for my students, I'm performing on a stage. I love, love, LOVE to act, to sing, and to pretend I can dance. I've sung in show choirs, a women's barbershop chorus and barbershop quartets. I've got me a family I love: a wonderful husband, and four incredible kids, the youngest of whom I was able to teach when she was in 3rd grade. I'm also a dog mom to my two Bernese Mountain dogs. Life is pretty good!
