I’m an author, Tedx Speaker, Professor and Researcher, Curriculum Designer. I’ve taught high school biology for 16 years and currently teach at the university level for almost 8 years. I prepare preservice elementary education majors in science methods. I am also one of the authors and editors of the new National Geographic/Cengage Biology textbook and author of a new Chapter children’s book, Keystone Passage My expertise is in science education research and curriculum design. I am involved in curriculum design projects. My research work focuses on meaningfully situating the lived experiences and narratives of Black heritage in the science curricula. This work has also led me to travel to the Gullah/Geechee islands off the coast of South Carolina as well as to visit Georgia. Free video clips are available on my youtube channel at YouTube.com/@visibilityinstem. All of this is reflected in my research publications.
I use inquiry explorations to facilitate students understanding of both the science subject content as well as understandings about the nature of science. I also use argumentation in science to facilitate student talk. My handouts and curricular work are closely tied to facilitate these understandings.
