The 2014-2015 academic school year is my 16th year working in education, as a teacher. I have worked as a title one teacher in second grade, as a full time classroom teacher in third and fifth grade and also spent a year working as a grades 6-8 reading teacher. This is my second year working as an intern facilitator, helping interns/practicum students/student teachers from Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, become full time classroom teachers. I have a masters in curriculum and instruction, for English Language Arts, grades K-12.
I am one of those teachers who never sits down to teach, unless I'm doing a read aloud on a rug, with younger students. I believe in the power of proximity to help with my classroom management, so I'm constantly walking around the room as I teach, especially during independent student work time. Curriculum integration is my main method of lesson planning and I have been working very hard the last three years to use data to drive my instruction and student progress monitoring. Finally, I believe that everything in a classroom, from what's hung on the classroom wall, to what comes out of my mouth, has purpose.
