Verena has more than twenty years of classroom experience at the elementary and middle school levels. She has been teaching written language, reading, and spelling in regular and special education settings. Since completing her intervention program, Verena gives workshops at educational conferences and in school districts. Her volunteer work includes teaching adults who are English Language Learners.
This program uses a multisensory approach involving the visual, auditory, kinesthetic (motion of writing), and oral (speaking) modalities. Multisensory principles activate every student's stronger learning style and strengthen the weaker modality.
While working as a Resource Specialist, a district committee selected Verena to Mentor Teacher positions three different years to develop reading lessons for struggling readers and to provide workshops for regular and special education staff. Power Tools for Literacy is the culmination of her work as a Mentor Teacher.
Verena has a B.A. in English from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.A. in Education of Learning Disabled Children from Minnesota State University. Teaching Credentials: Standard Secondary Credential, Major: English, Minor: History Learning Handicapped Credential, K-12 Resource Specialist Credential, K-12
