To see what I have been up to most recently, you can visit my Facebook page by searching "unitedtoteach". I also have a Pinterest profile under "unitedtoteach". I share the links and books I come across to create curriculum for my own children or children and students of friends. I taught 5th Grade Reading, Language Arts and Social Studies for 4 years. Before that, I subbed quite a bit in just about every grade level (though I tended to shy away from Subjects in the higher levels that I was not comfortable with). I am currently a Sunday school teacher for 3 and 4 year olds, and I am also a facilitator of writing workshops and camps for 3rd through 8th graders. You can find my writing camps and workshops by going to http://www.unitedtoteach.thinkific.com and https://www.boomwriter.com/c/ANNALEWIS
I believe in teaching children how to learn, rather than teaching them what to learn. Show them how to learn and they can learn for a life time. Tell them what to learn and they are never free, and we have not done our job in developing independent individuals capable of successful lives. With that in mind, most of my curriculum is based on children doing research. I give them graphic organizers, and my children actually help me design some of the Math, Reading, and Writing extension activities. All units are generally centered around a Reading, Social Studies, or Science theme. The themes are based on objectives most states are doing at the same time for each given grade level.
