I am presently in my thirteenth year of teaching and my seventh year in second grade. Prior to that I taught third grade for one year and fourth grade for five years. I have discovered that teaching primary really is a magical experience with adventure and challenges at every turn.
I have a student-centered teaching style with my focus being on the whole child. Building relationships, offering forgiveness, and being a source of support is vital to being successful with students. I don't believe it's about me handing out directions and my students working on their own, but that I need to take ownership as well in order for them to succeed and meet their goals. I also believe students need to be moving around and having some freedom to choose rather than to be stationary in their desks all day following the same tasks day after day.
